How to Remove the Category from URLs in WordPress

Categories
Tags

By default WordPress will insert /category/ into the URL for all of your category links. With just a quick change in your dashboard settings you can easily remove this.

By default the URL for your categories will be similar to this example: www.dragoncode.co.uk/category/wordpress

But you might prefer it to look like this:

www.dragoncode.co.uk/wordpress

To get rid of the word category just follow these simple steps:

  1. Login to your WordPress dashboard and go to Settings > Permalinks
  2. Select Custom Structure and insert /%category%/%postname%/
  3. Lastly, change the Category Base to a dot
