By default WordPress will insert /category/ into the URL for all of your category links. With just a quick change in your dashboard settings you can easily remove this.
By default the URL for your categories will be similar to this example: www.dragoncode.co.uk/category/wordpress
But you might prefer it to look like this:
To get rid of the word category just follow these simple steps:
Login to your WordPress dashboard and go to Settings > Permalinks
Select Custom Structure and insert /%category%/%postname%/
Lastly, change the Category Base to a dot
