How To Disable Right Click with HTML

Disabling right-click can help protect your images/photos from being illegally saved or downloaded. Though not full proof, this method can help act as a deterrent.

There are many ways to achieve this, with a lot of JavaScript-based solutions found on the Internet. This can be done with just a little bit of HTML though, specifically the ‘oncontextmenu’ event, which occurs when the user right-clicks on an element. Setting the oncontextmenu to ‘false’ disables that right-click menu and prevents it from opening. This technique can be applied to images on your website:

<img oncontextmenu="return false;" src="/myimage.jpg">
